Gracie Breakdown: UFC 136

Ryron and Hener Gracie breaks down UFC 136 fight between Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann for you.

They talk about the amazing display of Jiu Jitsu transition from Chael Sonnen. One of the few fighters who initially did buy the BJJ is the greatest martial arts in the world. Ironically he won his fight with the combination of his Jiu Jitsu and wrestling which just makes him a lot more dangerous on the ground.

Evovle MMA, Leading the way for Asian gyms

From Fighters Only Magazine
by James Goyder

The leader of Evolve MMA and his Champions
Shinya Aoki has firmly cemented his status as the top fighter in Asia with six straight wins in the last 15 months. It has also been a good year for his new team, Evolve MMA in Singapore; the Evolve Fight Team has registered a 12-1 record for 2011 in the UFC, DREAM Fighting Championship, ONE Fighting Championship, and DARE Championship.

In an effort to upgrade his skills in every area of MMA and to transform his game completely, Shinya Aoki joined the Evolve Fight Team in Singapore. Evolve MMA takes a unique approach in the world of mixed martial arts. The philosophy is a simple one: to acquire world champions in all of the main disciplines of MMA, to throw them under one roof and to have them train together day-in and day-out.

Evolve MMA is unlike almost any other camp in the world in that it is run like a professional sports team. Fighters are actively recruited from around the world and invited to become a part of the Evolve Fight Team.

They receive a hefty monthly salary, enjoy free corporate housing, and train under world champions in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, and No Gi Grappling. The facilities are enormous, state-of-the-art, and world-class; the fighters also benefit from a strength and conditioning coach to look after their fitness needs.

Instead of a loose group of mixed martial artists drifting in and out of training, Evolve MMA has a hand-picked, professional team from across the globe, working together constantly regardless of whether they have an upcoming fight or not. The Evolve Fight Team trains together 2x a day, 6 days week, all year round.

After a recent training visit to Evolve MMA, legendary MMA coach Matt Hume said that, “Evolve MMA is probably the best MMA school that I have ever seen. It has the deepest talent pool in the world. There is no doubt that they will be producing champions in the UFC, in DREAM, and other organizations in the future.”

Renzo Gracie echoes that sentiment, “For sure, there is no other academy like Evolve MMA in Asia. It has an unbelievable collection fighters and world champions. You will be hearing a lot about these guys.” Lastly, after training there,

UFC Legend Rich Franklin said in a recent interview that, “Evolve MMA is world championship level. The talent…especially the Muay Thai World Champions and BJJ Black Belts…are on another level. It’s only a matter of time before they start producing world champions in MMA.”

This all-year-round approach to training paid dividends when DARE Championship in Thailand asked Evolve MMA to find two suitable opponents on 10 days notice to face Ferrid Kheder, one of the most experienced 155 lbers outside of the UFC, and Sebastian Garguier, a top French fighter, on their main card.

Garguier and Kheder probably thought they were travelling to Thailand for an easy pay day and neither made any effort to even step onto the scales at the right weight. They got a rude awakening from Zorobabel Moreira and Brian Choi from the Evolve Fight Team. Moreira and Choi accepted the last minute call and registered convincing victories over Kheder and Garguier.

The leader of the Evolve Fight Team, Chatri Sityodtong, believes that the success of his team is due to the incredible teamwork at Evolve MMA.

“While most people believe that professional fighting is an individual sport, it is the farthest thing from the truth. In fact, fighting is probably one of the most intense team sports in the world. It takes an entire team to produce the results of a single fighter - coaches, managers, mentors, training partners, cornermen, students, etc," he said.

Moreira is a BJJ world champion from Brazil and Choi is a wrestler from Korea. As part of their development as MMA fighters, Chatri Sityodtong made Moreira and Choi compete in professional Muay Thai and professional western Boxing fights in Thailand. Chatri believes that it is critical for an MMA fighter to have actual combat experience in each of the single disciplines of MMA.

The pre-event publicity for DREAM 17 featured footage of Aoki hitting pads at Evolve MMA and working on both his boxing and Muay Thai. A few people expressed surprise at how much his stand up skills had improved and Aoki attributes it to the coaching he has received in Singapore,

“I feel very blessed to be a part of Evolve MMA. It is the top MMA camp in Asia by far and it is my belief that many of my teammates on the Evolve Fight Team will become MMA world champions in the future. Chatri and I have spent many hours trading our thoughts and ideas about martial arts. He is the main reason why I joined the Evolve Fight Team. Chatri is brilliant when it comes to fighting and martial arts,” he said.

Although he would love to avenge his disappointing loss to Gilbert Melendez, Aoki is all set to make an appearance at Bellator in 2012. His prospective opponent, Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, is the only other top ranked 155 lber not under the Zuffa banner. It will be a rematch of the 2008 fight in which Aoki won with a first round heel hook. Alvarez has won seven straight since that loss to Aoki.

Another member of the Evolve Fight Team is Rafael dos Anjos, a UFC lightweight fighter. He recently enjoyed a KO victory over George Sotiropoulos and will be competing at UFC 139 in November in San Jose, California. He spends a few months a year training at Evolve MMA in Singapore and the rest of the time at Evolve MMA in Brazil.

While Aoki and Dos Anjos are already well-established fighters, the Evolve Fight Team also has plenty of up-and-coming fighters (who are already world champions and/or national champions in single disciplines) such as Fabricio Monteiro (19-7), Leandro Issa (9-2), Zorobabel Moreira (5-1), Brian Choi (5-1), Eddie Ng (4-1), Mitch Chilson (2-1), Alex Silva (1-0), Yodsanan Sityodtong (1-0), Radeem Rahman (1-0).

Yodsanan Sityodtong is a former WBA Super Featherweight world champion while Leandro Issa and Zorobabel Moreira are BJJ world champions.

Evolve MMA is also home to legendary Muay Thai world champions Orono Wor Petchpun, Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn, Attachai Fairtex, Kongtoranee Payakaroon, Anuwat Kaewsamrit, Yoddecha Sityodtong, Lamanammoon Sor Sumalee, and many others.

While these Thai names might not mean much in the world of MMA, these Muay Thai legends are national heroes in Thailand and rank among the greatest in history. A couple of magazines in Thailand have gone as far as to label Evolve MMA’s team as the most decorated Muay Thai team in history.

Chatri has spent a lot of time and money acquiring this impressive array of talent,

“I handpick all of the fighters and instructors at Evolve MMA. I choose the members of the team based on a combination of personal/professional characteristics such as integrity, honesty, athleticism, gameness, humility, work ethic and teamwork. I believe in this formula so much so that I have even kicked out fighters and instructors from Evolve MMA for displaying behaviour which was counterproductive to the team,” he said.

It is interesting to note that no fighter has ever left the Evolve Fight Team voluntarily since its inception in 2008. This search has taken him all over the globe with fighters coming from as far as Brazil, Korea, the US, Hong Kong, Thailand and, of course, Singapore. Chatri spends a long time looking at prospective candidates,

“The formula is easy to talk about, but very difficult to execute. I get flooded with incoming emails, probably around one hundred emails or so per week from fighters around the world (mostly Asia) who want to be a part of the Evolve Fight Team as a fighter or instructor," he said.

I try my best to select every person for the Evolve Fight Team with extremely careful thought and consideration because I only want to invest myself in people that I believe in for the long run."

With upcoming fights all over the world, the Evolve Fight Team is busy training as always. The Evolve Fight Team has a hectic schedule lined up in 2012 in the UFC, ONE Fighting Championship, DREAM Fighting Championship, DARE Fighting Championship, and many other organizations.

Evolve MMA has already forged a reputation for being the most outstanding MMA academy in Asia with a 90%+ win record. The US has Jackson’s Submission Fighting and Team Cesar Gracie. Brazil has Blackhouse and Brazilian Top Team. And Asia has Evolve MMA.

Official: Melendez vs Masvidal for Strikeforce in December

From MMA Fighting
by Ariel Herwani

Masvidal in his fight against Imada
Gilbert Melendez will have to wait a little longer to fight in the UFC.

Strikeforce announced on Tuesday that "El Nino" will in fact defend his lightweight title against Jorge Masvidal on Dec. 17 in San Diego, Calif. The card will take place at Valley View Casino Center, and tickets go on sale to the public on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Melendez met with UFC president Dana White over the weekend to discuss the possibility of unifying the Strikeforce and UFC lightweight title but no deal was reached.

"I just wanted to discuss my future with the organization," Melendez said Monday on The MMA Hour. "I just expressed that I want to fight the best."

Melendez (19-2) has won his last five fights in a row. He most recently defeated Tatsuya Kawajiri via first-round TKO at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley, which also took place in San Diego.

Masvidal (22-6) is 2-0 since returning to Strikeforce, defeating Billy Evangelista and KJ Noons.

Also officially announced for the card is Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos vs. Hiroko Yamanaka for the Strikeforce women's featherweight title, Gegard Mousasi vs. Ovince St. Preux and local favorite KJ Noons is expected to meet Billy Evangelista.

The main card will air live on Showtime.

Machida looking to beat Jon Jones in their upcoming fight in UFC 140

From Sherdog
by Marcelo Alonso

Lyoto " Ryu" Machida
Two and a half years have passed since Lyoto Machida knocked out Rashad Evans at UFC 98 and became the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight titleholder. He defended the crown once against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua before losing by knockout in their rematch at UFC 113. Another defeat to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson followed, leaving Machida in limbo.

A highlight-reel knockout against hall of famer Randy Couture before 55,000 fans at UFC 129 put Machida back on track and back in play at 205 pounds. Now, he awaits the most difficult test of his career: a five-round title bout against reigning light heavyweight king Jon Jones in the UFC 140 main event on Dec. 10 in Toronto. The former champion believes he has the weapon he needs to dethrone the man they call “Bones.”

“It’s hard to say what the perfect style is to stop Jones,” Machida told Sherdog.com. “I have a lot of trust in my skills against any fighter. I won’t change what people have seen, and I’d rather show them in the Octagon instead of talking about it beforehand. Jones wasn’t my problem until the UFC booked the fight. I’ll spend a lot of time studying him and find the best way to stop him. I know he’s versatile, but I have my own talents and know what it takes to win.”

Jones has looked unstoppable.
Machida figures to be an underdog to Jones, who has yet to suffer a legitimate defeat in his professional career. “The Dragon” cares nothing for the odds.

“The fight will be decided in the Octagon,” he said. “Let him be the favorite. He’ll enter with the label of being a prodigy, but I’ll be stronger because of that. Since I’m the underdog, I will enter the fight even more motivated to show that I deserve to be here and to show why they offered me the chance.”

Age has provided Machida with valuable seasoning.

“I’m a complete man now that I’m 33. I’m not a 22- or 23-year-old kid anymore,” he said. “What changed most for me was my maturity and the experience I gained. It’s something subtle that people don’t see easily, but you feel the change. You acquire things you couldn’t even imagine.”

Machida has already begun his training camp, which will include Yuri Alcantara, Ildemar Alcantara and K-1 fighter Anderson “Braddock” Silva. Glover Teixeira will likely not be involved full-time, as he plans to travel to the Netherlands with Pedro Rizzo; there, they will train with Peter Aerts in advance of Rizzo’s forthcoming bout with two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia. Nevertheless, Machida does hope to secure the services of UFC middleweight boss Anderson Silva, a former teammate at Black House. The two share managers in Ed Soares and Jorge “Joinha” Guimaraes, and Silva matches up nicely with Jones physical features.

“We told Ed and Joinha that we would want to bring in Anderson to help,” Machida said, “but I can’t count on that because he has so many obligations, and I respect that. He’s the biggest name in MMA. I would love to have him beside me for this camp and he will be welcomed if he joins us, but I don’t want to count on him and not have it happen.”

Machida thinks he can drag Jones into the later rounds.

“I can get Jones to the fifth round,” he said. “I believe in myself, in what I’m doing and in my teammates.”

When Machida steps in the cage against Jones, nearly eight months will have passed since he flattened Couture. The layoff seems of little concern.

“I’ve seen athletes that returned from an even longer period of inactivity and had success,” Machida said. “I’ve been away from the Octagon for less than seven months, and I’ve been training. I won’t have trouble getting back in there.”

UFC Undisputed 3 Cover - Anderson "The Spider" Silva

UFC president Dana White on Saturday revealed UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva as the winner of the voting competition to name the cover athlete for the forthcoming release of UFC Undisputed 3, the UFC branded video game produced by THQ.
Silva, who most recently defeated top contender Yushin Okami at UFC Rio in August to retain his middleweight championship, currently holds both the longest winning streak and longest title defense streak in UFC history.
In a franchise-first opportunity, fans were invited to vote online for one of five current UFC champions – Silva, UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, or UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez – to be this year’s cover athlete.  More than 110,000 votes were cast by fans from around the world, with Silva garnering the largest percentage among his fellow competitors.
“Enabling fans worldwide to select the UFC Undisputed 3 cover athlete has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Games, THQ.  “Anderson Silva possesses a tremendous work ethic and incredible prowess inside the Octagon, making him an excellent choice to serve as our cover athlete for the game.”
“The fans have voted and Anderson Silva will be on the cover of UFC Undisputed 3,” UFC President Dana White said. “This game has a ton of new features, including the Pride mode, and we can’t wait for fans to get a chance to play it.”
Here is Anderson Winning trailer

Personally I voted for Cain Velasquez but oh well

I can't wait for the game to be release and I can't wait for what Chael Sonnen Has so say about this.

Brock Lesnar back with WWE with UFC backing. WWE video game that is.

From TMZ

After SEVEN YEARS apart, UFC pain machine Brock Lesnar is getting back into business with the company that put him on the map -- WWE -- in a deal that will make him the "featured star" in a brand new video game.

Multiple sources confirm ...the people developing "WWE: 12" approached Brock back in January and asked for permission to use his name and likeness in the game and the advertising campaign.

We're told Brock loved the idea -- but wouldn't sign off unless his current boss, UFC honcho Dana White, gave his blessing. Fortunately, it worked out.

TMZ spoke with White, who told us, "I love WWE and I have nothing but love for Vince McMahon -- I'm totally OK with Brock being in the game."

We're told the first commercial for the game -- starring Brock -- will be released tomorrow.

UFC 136 by Numbers

From Sherdog
By Brian Knapp

Finish Him!!
Much like hall of famers Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture, Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard will be forever linked by their trilogy. They sandwiched wins around a New Year’s Day draw. Edgar brought some decisive finality to the rivalry and retained his lightweight crown with an emotionally stirring fourth-round knockout against “The Bully” in the UFC 136 headliner on Saturday at the Toyota Center in Houston.

Beyond the outcome rest the facts and figures. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 136 “Edgar vs. Maynard 3,” with statistics provided by FightMetric:

58:54: Total time Edgar and Maynard have spent engaged in battle inside the Octagon.

11: Takedowns Edgar attempted against Maynard in the rematch. None were successful.

9: Takedowns Maynard delivered against Edgar in their first encounter at UFC Fight Night 13, six more than he secured in their second and third fights combined.

1,996: Days Maynard spent as an undefeated mixed martial artist.

13: Consecutive victories for Jose Aldo since he suffered the lone defeat of his career to Luciano Azevedo in 2005. The featherweight champion captured a unanimous decision from “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 1 finalist Kenny Florian in Houston, extending his streak to 13.

15: Significant strikes by which Aldo outlanded Florian over the final three rounds. The Brazilian dynamo outstruck Florian 16-3 in the third round alone.

3: Bids Florian has made to win UFC gold. All have failed.

17: UFC appearances for Florian, tying him with the late Evan Tanner for 13th on the all-time list, one behind Georges St. Pierre, Rich Franklin, Frank Mir, Chris Leben and David “Tank” Abbott.

241: Weeks in between Chael Sonnen’s submission on Brian Stann and the one that preceded it. The outspoken Team Quest representative had not tapped out an opponent since he put away Tim McKenzie with a brabo choke under the Bodog Fight banner in February 2007.

2: Significant strikes Stann landed on Sonnen in his second-round submission defeat, the lowest such total of his career.

6: Joe Lauzon submissions inside the UFC after he coaxed a tapout from Melvin Guillard with a first-round rear-naked choke -- more than heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (zero), light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (three), middleweight champion Anderson Silva (three), welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (two) and lightweight champion Edgar (one).

89: Percentage of Guillard’s career losses that have come by submission.

58: Average number of significant strikes Nam Phan landed per round in his unanimous decision victory over Leonard Garcia.

251: Total strikes by which Garcia has been outlanded in his last nine bouts -- three wins, five losses and a draw. In fact, the Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts representative and former WEC featherweight title contender has not outstruck an opponent since he defeated Jens Pulver by first-round technical knockout on Nov. 5, 2008, the same night Barack Obama was elected 44th President of the United States.

66: Total strikes by which Demian Maia, a decorated grappler, outlanded Jorge Santiago, representing the third-largest disparity of his UFC career. He outstruck Mario Miranda 104-29 at UFC 118 in August 2010 and Jason MacDonald 103-36 at UFC 87 in August 2008.

1,928: Days since Jorge Santiago’s last -- and only -- victory inside the Octagon, a first-round knockout against the late Justin Levens at UFC Fight Night 5.

6: Takedowns secured by Anthony Pettis in his split decision nod over Jeremy Stephens, two more than in his previous seven appearances combined.

36: Percentage of significant strikes Stephens landed on Pettis, the second-highest for any opponent who has gone the distance with the former WEC champion. Bart Palaszewski landed at a 50-percent clip in his split decision victory over Pettis at WEC 45.

Thiago Santos replaces Mike Hayes for Bellator Heaveyweight tournament semifinals

As officials feared, a broken orbital bone has forced Mike Hayes (16-4-1 MMA, 2-1 BFC) out of Bellator's current season-five heavyweight tournament.

In his place steps replacement Thiago Santos (9-1 MMA, 1-0 BFC), who now meets Blagoi Ivanov (5-0 MMA, 2-0 BFC) in a semifinal matchup later this month at Bellator 56, officials today announced.

Bellator 56 takes place Oct. 29 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan.

The night's main card, including tourney fights of Santos vs. Ivanov and Eric Prindle (8-1 MMA, 2-0 BFC) vs. Ron Sparks (8-0 MMA, 3-0 BFC), airs on MTV2 (and in high-definition on EPIX). The prelims stream on Spike.com.

The Louisiana State Boxing and Wrestling Commission issued Hayes a 60-day suspension following his opening-round win over Neil Grove on Oct. 1. He planned to appeal the suspension, but the injury was too severe for the quick turnaround time needed for the 12-week tournament.

In his place steps Santos, who won a tourney-reserve bout over Josh Burns this past weekend at Bellator 53. Santos initially was slated to compete in the eight-man tourney, but visa issues forced the Brazilian out of the tourney on the eve of the opening round.

The latest Bellator 56 card now includes:

MAIN CARD (MTV2)
Champ Ben Askren vs. Jay Hierson (for welterweight title)
Blagoi Ivanov vs. Thiago Santos (heavyweight-tourney semifinals)
Eric Prindle vs. Ron Sparks (heavyweight-tourney semifinals)

Gilbert Melendez call dibs on UFC lightweight title

From MMA Fighting
by Michael David Smith

Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez sat down with UFC President Dana White recently and put it out there that he'd love to get a crack at the UFC lightweight title.

"I just wanted to discuss my future with the organization," Melendez said Monday on The MMA Hour. "It looks like I have a good future. ... I just expressed that I want to fight the best."

Although Melendez described himself as a loyal Strikeforce fighter who still has four fights left on his contract, he made no secret of the fact that his ultimate goal in the sport is to be the champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

"The UFC title is the best belt," he said. "I want that belt and I want it as soon as possible."

Melendez said he believes he matches up well with UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and has done enough that he deserves the next shot at Edgar's belt.

"I'm definitely impressed by Frankie. He's an amazing fighter. He's great," Melendez said. "I honestly feel like I'm the No. 1 contender and I feel like I'm ready for the title shot now."

The UFC has already brought in Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem and Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, and Melendez is hoping he's next. Melendez stressed, however, that he's not allowing the possibility of fighting in the UFC distract him from his planned December 17 Strikeforce fight with Jorge Masvidal.

"I've been focusing on Jorge Masvidal," Melendez said. "He's the first guy in line. I think he's the No. 1 contender, as of now, in Strikeforce, and as of now I have to focus on that guy. He's real tough. But it's hard not to get excited when you hear all these rumors."

Melendez had nothing but positive things to say about Strikeforce, but he has been frustrated at times that the general public recognizes only UFC fighters as the best in the world.

"The most frustrating thing is the recognition," Melendez said. "A lot of people don't recognize me as a great fighter because I haven't beaten any UFC guys."

Melendez hopes to change that soon.

Dallas May be the venue for Silva vs Sonnen 2

From MMA junkie
by Dan Stupp and John Morgan

HOUSTON – After hosting a another successful show in the Lone Star State, the UFC could return to Texas with an even bigger event.

It fact, the state could host the UFC's next major stadium show.

And following his impressive victory over Brian Stann at Saturday's UFC 136 event at Houston's Toyota Center, Chael Sonnen could get his long-awaited rematch in the show's headliner.

White said he currently has no plans for a next stadium show; the first, of course, took back in April when a UFC and North American record 55,724 attendees packed Toronto's Rogers Centre. But should a second one be put together, Dallas' 110,000-seat Cowboys Stadium could be the venue.

"We've been talking to (Cowboys owner) Jerry Jones for a while about doing a fight there," White said. "It's just got to be the right fight. We're definitely going there. It's just a matter of when."

So how does he know when the timing is right? After all, White, who made a triumphant return to Brazil back in August, greatly underestimated the demand in the country and saw 14,000 seats sell out in just 74 minutes. Next year, UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said the Convention Center of Manaus (one of many "sambadromes" located throughout Brazil) – an outdoor venue that can hold up to 100,000 fans – could be the next host site.

"It's a gut (thing)," White said. "We kind of go with our gut, and we've been right. We knew Toronto was going to be big, so we went for the big stadium there. We [expletive] Brazil up last time we went there. We didn't nail that one, but we won't make that mistake twice."

As for Dallas, White said it's only a matter of time.

"It's like all these prestigious arenas you go to around the world," he said. "We've been to Royal Albert Hall. We've been to the O2 Arena in London. You name the arena, we've been there. It's a big deal for us to go to Dallas [Cowboys] Stadium and put on a big event there. ... We want to do that big stadium (show)."

Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields headlined the first stadium show at UFC 129. So what could headline the Dallas show?

Following his victory over Stann, Sonnen – who returned from a 14-month layoff – solidified his No. 1 contender's status and immediately called out UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The fighters first met at UFC 117, where Sonnen dominated four rounds before Silva secured a fifth-round submission victory.

Since then, the outspoken Sonnen has claimed to be the UFC's true champ, and Saturday's post-fight speech was used solely to call out Silva.

Could Dallas host the rematch?

"I think it could," White said. "I think we could do a big, big venue for that one."

Kimura Takedown by Nick Diaz

Nick Diaz is one of my favorite fighters right now in MMA. His attitude during fights and his skill set really impress me. He is a anti-hero MMA but without people like him and Chael Sonnen MMA would sure be little bit more boring.

Here we see him teaching one of favorite moves the Kimura takedown.

Saunders and Lima are in the Finals

From Around the Octagon
by Around the Octagon

Ben "Killa B" Saunders
There were eight at the start but after Bellator 53 in Miami, OK, just two men remain in the Bellator Season 5 Welterweight Tournament. Ben “Killa B” Saunders and Douglas Lima will advance to the welterweight finals after finishing each of their opponents in front of a sold out crowd inside the Buffalo Run Casino Resort.

“Our Welterweights were simply electric tonight” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Lima looked spectacular on his feet against a top, top tier striker in Chris Lozano and Ben Saunders on the ground was spectacular. Top to bottom this was an incredible show, and our Welterweight Finals should be something very special.”

Saunders scored an impressive victory with a dominating performance on the ground against veteran Luis Santos, a fighter with over 50 career wins. Santos succeeded in taking the fight to the mat but Saunders dictated the pace of the fight from his back with arm locks and a stiff underhook. In the third and final round, Saunders found himself in top position on the mat for the first time in the fight. He advanced to half guard and finished the fight by keylock to secure victory and his spot in the Welterweight Finals later this season.

“The Assassin” Chris Lozano was dealt just the second loss of his young career at the hands “The Phenom” Douglas Lima. More than half of Lozano’s wins inside the cage have come via knockout, and it was evident by Lozano’s willingness to stand and trade with Lima. It backfired however in the second round as Lima caught Lozano coming in with a perfectly timed right cross following a failed left hook by Lozano. Lima knocked “The Assassin” out cold to advance to the finals of the Bellator Welterweight Tournament.

Josh Burns and Thiago Santos were fighting for a reserve spot in Bellator’s Heavyweight Tournament as semifinalist Mike Hayes, who knocked off Neil Grove at Bellator 52, may be under a 60-day suspension and unable to compete due to a broken orbital from his fight against Grove. Santos was on task from the beginning in his fight with Burns as he systematically pressured him against the cage, took him down, softened him up with numerous strikes and finished the fight by rear naked choke after Burns gave up his back. With the victory, Santos may join fellow heavyweights Ron Sparks, Blagoi Ivanov and Eric Prindle in the semifinals of the Heavyweight Tournament.

In a Season 6 Featherweight Tournament Qualifier fight, Ronnie “Kid Ninja” Mann defeated Kenny Foster in impressive fashion. Foster managed to take “Kid Ninja” to the ground twice in the first round, but Mann proved just as dangerous from his back as he’s shown to be on his feet. He constantly worked for submissions until he caught his opponent in a triangle choke near the end of the opening round and forced Foster to tap. Mann dedicated the fight to the memory of his coach Shawn Thompkins who passed away on Aug. 14. Thompkins was a respected member of the MMA community and was also the coach of Bellator veteran Chris Horodecki.

Here's is Douglas Lima Knockout of Chris Lozano once again.

Stipe Miocic

Stipe Miocic
Getting a read on unbeaten fighters coming into the UFC is always tough. Miocic entered the Octagon for the first time with an unblemished record and having never gone into the third round.

Joey Beltran was a stern challenge and pushed the newcomer throughout, but Miocic was able to emerge with a unanimous decision victory.

A lot of people have been high on the Cleveland State alum following his success on the regional circuit, and he showed why — for the most part — in this one. Miocic has solid wrestling and boxing credentials, and now that he's gotten his first fight in the UFC out of the way, he knows what he needs to improve and can keep moving forward.

His conditioning is the only real question mark coming out of last night's fight, and that is somewhat understandable and expected of UFC neophytes. This is a different level, and the athletes are in prime condition, and Miocic will get there.

He's one to watch in the heavyweight division in the future.

Joe Lauzon

When you're a 3-1 underdog and you take home Submission of the Night honors in under a minute, you deserve some time in the spotlight.

Lauzon clipped Melvin Guillard early in the first, capitalizing on his opponent's cockiness to put him on the canvas. He pounced on Guillard, sunk in his hooks, and cinched in a deep rear naked choke to collect the submission, doing it all in just 47 seconds.

The victory drops Guillard out of the lightweight title picture, and adds Lauzon's name to the ever-growing list of contenders. It was the best win of his career, though he ranked his 2006 victory over Jens Pulver as his biggest to date at the post-fight press conference.

Lauzon is a proven finisher. He's finished all eight opponents he's faced inside the Octagon, and taken home seven bonus in 11 fights, including earning extra take home pay in seven consecutive fights.

Chael Sonnen

While his comments garner the majority of the attention — and rightfully so — Chael Sonnen's abilities and performance inside the cage Saturday night deserves some recognition.

After an extended layoff, Sonnen came out and took it to a Brian Stann. He put him on his back and gained several dominant positions in the opening round, threatening with a choke in the first. In the second, he caught an early Stann kick to bring the fight to the canvas again, transitioning into side control as he secured the fight ending arm triangle choke.

Like a lot of wrestlers, Sonnen does get enough credit for the well-rounded skill set that he brings into the cage, but he showed those talents last night in Houston. There was no lay-and-pray from Sonnen on Saturday night as he chained together transitions, leaving Stann little room to escape or muster any offense.

Of course, a lot of his outstanding performance is going to fade into the background of the story after his epic post-fight challenge to Anderson Silva. Be prepared for another couple months of verbal uppercuts from Sonnen between now and February; just don't forget about his outstanding performance from UFC 136 while you're shaking your head and laughing at what he says

UFC 136: Dana White Looks Back at UFC 136, Talks Strikeforce and Jones v...

Dana White touches on many issues in this interview varying from the fight between Edgar and Maynard and how he believes Edgar is no. 2 in the Pound for pound list.

Dana also mention that the fight between Silva and Sonnen 2 is a stupid thing not to do. So look out for it in the near future. Probably early 2012.

He mentioned Florian's display against Aldo and the future of the light heavyweight division and how MelviN Guillard look passed Joe Lauzon for the match maybe the reason he lost.

The number one public enemy in Brazil has issued his challenge to the alleged cowardly champion Anderson Silva.

Last Stand? No, This Is Kenny Florian's Time

From Fightline
by Mark Wayne

Many see Kenny Florian's upcoming title fight with UFC featherweight champion José Aldo - his third shot at UFC gold - as possibly his last opportunity to fight for a belt. Florian has seen championship rounds twice and, after losing an opportunity to fight Frankie Edgar by losing to Gray Manyard in a title eliminator, the affable Bostonian dropped to featherweight to mount what has been called his last stand.
Florian though, doesn't quite look at it in those terms.

"I don't really see it that way," said Florian. "I'm fortunate that I love what I do. I love going to the gym everyday and learning. I love the challenges. I've been in the UFC a long time. I think, just to be able to do that, has been a blessing. I want to compete against the best guys and that's what I have here on Saturday night. I'm gonna go out there and get it done. This has been an excellent training camp and I feel that it's my time."

Ken-Flo believes that the fight, which takes place in the co-main event slot of UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard 3 tomorrow night from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, will be one of the - or possibly the - most difficult of his career, but he still plans on walking out of the ring with a belt.

"It's gonna be a tough fight, Aldo's dangerous and I expect it's going to be a bloody fight," he predicted. "I'll leave there bloody, but I'll leave there with the belt."

GSP trains with Daley and Winner for Condit fight

From Fighters Only Magazine

Georges St. Pierre recently revealed that his former opponent Dan ‘The Outlaw’ Hardy was training with him in Montreal, Canada ahead of a UFC 137 title clash with Carlos Condit.

Now two of Hardy’s fellow Rough House fighters - Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley and Andre Winner - will be following in his footsteps.

“I go to Amsterdam next week to finish up my sparring. Then me and Andre Winner will be linking up with the champion himself, Georges St-Pierre, who's a good friend of Andre Winner's now, and I'll be doing the last bit of prep at Tristar,” Daley told MMA Junkie Radio.

Daley is preparing for a fight with UFC veteran Luigi Fioravanti. It takes place in Montreal on October 21st and so it makes sense that he conclude his preparations in the city. But it is also a boost for St. Pierre to have Daley and Winner around for some sparring.

Both have extensive striking backgrounds and are well-placed to replicate Condit’s attacking style, or at least put St. Pierre under the kind of striking pressure he will welcome as he sharpens himself for the ‘Natural Born Killer’.

If Daley beats Fioravanti he will be on a two-fight winning run and 2-2 in his last four, having lost to Nick Diaz and Tyron Woodley respectively. He desperately wants a rematch with Diaz and is hoping that the UFC will take him back so it can be set up.

Their first fight ended with a TKO late in the first round but was a huge crowd-pleaser from start to finish. It has been nominated as a 2011 Fight of the Year and a rematch would surely bring plenty of buys to any pay-per-view package.

UFC 136: Weigh In's

Shhhh.. Chael Sonnen is talking

From MMA Junkie
by Dann Stupp and John Morgan

HOUSTON – In many ways, Chael Sonnen makes it too easy for reporters.

Ask a few questions, and you have a headline-worthy sound bite, a boastful prediction, a claim that flies in the face of conventional wisdom, and then a stealthy compliment that makes you think the outspoken fighter really isn't all that bad.

For Sonnen, it's just another day on the job as MMA's most unique personality.

After returning from a 14-month layoff that resulted from multiple suspensions and legal issues, Sonnen (25-11-1 MMA, 4-4 UFC) now meets Brian Stann (11-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) on Saturday's UFC 136 pay-per-view main card at Houston's Toyota Center. The winner could be in line for a title shot.

On Thursday, Sonnen was back in pre-fight mode. And though we got our headlining quote, Sonnen was trying to make a legitimate point – even if he adds in a bit of levity for good measure.

"Listen, I don't have a show," he told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I just tell it like it is. You guys ask the questions; I answer them.

"I don't manufacture conflict. I think I'm the most respectful guy in this sport. I have a vastly different opinion of what respect means than some people. Some people think it's respectful to lie and be nice to your face and bow and put a knife in your back when you turn around. I well tell you to your face that when you turn around, I'm going to put a knife in your back, and then I'll do it. That's respect."

Welcome back, Chael Sonnen. Love or hate him (and everyone falls into one of two camps), he remains a major figure in MMA.

Why?

For the past half decade, the sport has seen no equal to Anderson Silva, a record-setting UFC middleweight champion who's stumbled only once during his current 15-fight win streak. Silva, who's widely considered MMA's pound-for-pound kingpin, was dominated by Sonnen for more than four rounds before the champ pulled off a miracle submission victory midway through the fifth round.

Since the August 2010 fight, the performance essentially has been a black mark on Silva's resume. If he rematches Sonnen and proves the UFC 117 meeting was a fluke, Silva essentially has nothing left to prove in the sport.

And if you think Sonnen is too busy focusing on Stann to worry about the rematch, think again.

"I always look ahead," he said. "I don't ever focus on anything. Again, this doesn't require focus, guys. This is a fistfight for a 15-minute time limit. I can't think of anything less meaningful or important in life than that.

"You guys have all worked more than 15 minutes just today. So I'm going to have to go work 15 minutes in the last 14 months. I'm not going to sit around and complain about that or act as though I'm building a piano here. It's a fight."

Surely, though, it's a little more complicated than that, right? Just tell us you've been working on a game plan for an opponent who's quickly become of the division's top-tier fighters.

"I don't do game plans," he said. "Listen, guys. You can take all these guys with their eighth-grade education and their gold teeth trying to sit around and break down a fight. This is the most unsophisticated and un-well-thought-out thing you need to do in life. Two half-naked men are going to get into a steel cage and fight for the applause of a drunken rowdy crowd in Houston, Texas, on Saturday night. We don't need a plan for this."

Despite the humor, though, Sonnen eventually admits that yes, Stann is a real challenge. He presents real problems. And Sonnen, who actually commentated Stann's first pro fight back at SportFight 14 in 2006, knows he gets better each time out.

Stann needed three minutes to defeat his opponent that night: IFL vet and stand-out wrestler Aaron Stark.

"Brian was a natural," Sonnen said. "He fought a national wrestling champion, my teammate Aaron Stark, and he stopped it in a couple minutes of the very first round. I couldn't stop Stark in a couple minutes of the first round. So I was impressed.

"I grabbed him after the fight, introduced myself and said, 'Man, I just think you're really good. I wanted you to know.' I still think he's really good. When he was green and didn't know much about fighting, he won the world championship in the WEC up a weight class, so I don't question his skills at all."

Facing Stann, a true war hero, Sonnen knows his usual heel role will be amplified significantly. He knows his time away has done nothing to cool the hatred so many fans have for him. So when he enters the cage for Saturday's event, he has a simple request.

"Listen, I only ask the crowd to do two things: Be present and be loud," he said.

And the first jab thrown in UFC 140 is... Lyoto Machida

From Five Knuckles
By Hubert lau

Could 2012 be year of the Dragon?
Lyoto Machida is confident as he is given the chance to reclaim his title when he faces the one time defending UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, at UFC 140 according to tatame.com.

Currently Jones is standing in a similar position to where Machida was just two years ago. Armed with an unorthodox style that has left his opponents bewildered and battered in their fights, Jones reigns the UFC's light heavyweight division much like Machida when he first won the title from Rashad Evans at UFC 98.

"It's hard, he's is much versatile and knows a lot of techniques, but we play a similar game. He kicks, I kick, he punches and goes to the ground, I can defend myself and take him down too. Stamina and game plan are things that could define this bout's outcome. Nobody is invincible," said Machida.

Machida declares that his is physically 100 percent ready for his fight with Jones and opts to keep his training camp in Brazil, looking to train with Anderson Silva for preparation. Additionally Machida predicts a strategic duel when he faces Jones at UFC 140.

"It'll be a strategic bout, he's a guy who studies his opponents and so do I...I'll do my job and keep training. My life ain't about money and fame, it's always been training, since I was an amateur. I've always waited for this moment to come to me again," added Machida

UFC 140 is expected to be scheduled on December 10 at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Jones vs. Machida light heavyweight title match is to headlined, complemented by the Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir rematch in the co-main event.

Ryan Jimmo asks you to not bring your kids for MFC 31

From MMA Weekly
by Mick Hammond

Big Deal with his belt
Normally Ryan Jimmo is cool, calm, and collected heading into fights, but not for his upcoming MFC light-heavyweight title defense against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at MFC 31 on Oct. 7 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

As Jimmo explained to MMAWeekly.com, the trouble started when the two taped an episode of HDNet’s “Inside MMA” the week before the fight.

“That guy grabbed my belt when we were on the show and was very dismissive of me,” said Jimmo. “I think he’s taking me very lightly.

“It’s really enraged me. Before, I was just focused on winning the fight, now I want to see how much bodily harm I came make him feel. I want to see how deformed I can make his face so that his children don’t recognize him.”

According to Jimmo, he’s only been this emotionally invested in a fight on a couple of occasions, and both occurrences ended badly for his opponents.

“(I felt this way heading into) my Wilson Gouveia fight and my Craig Zellner fight; and in both instances, the person I was fighting, I retired,” said Jimmo. “I retired them both, and now I’m planning on retiring Sokoudjou.”

When asked if he felt he could channel his anger and not have it work against him in the fight, Jimmo replied, “I’ve always had a good filter as to when to ease off, but I fight better when I’m kind of fired up.

“I’m very smart and tactical, and when you add in that emotional element, it’s a double whammy, and I’m unbeatable at that point.”

Putting emotion aside, Jimmo feels that both fighters have their advantages in the fight, but he has the edge in areas he feels will determine the outcome of the match.

“He may be a good stand-up player, but I’m a better stand-up player technically,” said Jimmo. “He’s pretty explosive; and I don’t think I’m as explosive, but I’m pretty close. His Judo is very good, but I have national-level wrestling, so I think we even up there.

“On the ground I think I’m better than him. Endurance-wise, I blow him out of the water. The thing I think that is going to be the huge differential is the mental game. I think that’s where he’s going to get crushed.”

Jimmo further commented, “I’m going to put him his heels the whole time and make him constantly uncomfortable, and then I’ll wait for him to wilt eventually. Some fighters when they wilt are able to come back, but not him – once he’s broken, he’s broken – so I’m going to break him and then really put some nasty punishment on him.”

With 15 wins in a row and a championship around his waist, many feel that Jimmo could be on the verge of making his move to the biggest stage of MMA, but he’s not having any of it at the moment.

“I’m fighting Sokoudjou on Oct. 7 and whatever comes after that, I’ll deal with that, but the only thing I can think about is Oct. 7 and putting on some target practice with Sokoudjou’s face,” he said. “I don’t look that far ahead; not at this point; after the fight then I can plan and see what’s going on, but right now, it’s Oct. 7.”

While most of the time its business as usual for Jimmo heading into a fight, on Friday night, it’s personal, and he doesn’t think anyone’s going to want to miss what’s going to happen.

“He enraged me, so you’re really going to want to see it,” he concluded. “You’re going to want to see the kind of beating I’m going to put on him. Don’t bring your children, but come see the show on Oct. 7 in Edmonton.”

UFC Calendar to Grow to 34 Events in 2012

From MMA Fighting
By Mike Chiappetta

HOUSTON -- Saturday night's UFC 136 marks the fourth event in four weeks for the Las Vegas-based promotion.

Get used to it.

So more of her?? Please??
The schedule continues to grow at an exponential rate, according to UFC president Dana White, who said that the organization has already penciled in dates on its 2012 calendar.

The final tally? Thirty-four events. That's a serious increase from 2011, which will see 27 live events by the time Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem close out the UFC's year in Las Vegas on December 30.

That increased number of shows will come as welcome news to fans in markets that have been promised events but were shut out in 2011, like Sweden and Ireland. Though no locations are yet set in stone, the increased frequency of events will at least provide additional opportunities to visit more parts of the world as the UFC continues to grow its global footprint.

White also reiterated his plan to host two events on the same day at least once next year, with their first experiment in dual productions tentatively planned for late February, with shows in Las Vegas and Japan.

In 2011, the UFC re-opened what they believe will be a huge market for them, hosting a show in Brazil to great fanfare. It was the organization's first venture there since 1998. Afterward, UFC CEO and chairman Lorenzo Fertitta was so pleased with the reception that he voiced a hope the promotion could bring as many as four events there in 2012.

Aside from that, entering the Japanese market would be something of a coup for the UFC, which has not brought fights there under the Zuffa banner.

The expanded schedule is just one of many planned and/or official UFC initiatives and changes to roll out in 2012. Also among them, a move to network television on FOX, a departure from longtime cable home Spike, the addition of a flyweight division, and a revamping of The Ultimate Fighter to include live weekly fight

This dude vs This other dude on MFC 31

Dude breaking the Bat is Mukai Maromo. A Muay Thai specialist who has a professional MMA record of 5-2 with 3 of his wins comes via KO or TKO

MFC 31 he will be fighting this dude

Who punched the heck out of the china dude and tell him to go back to china. A Filipino fighter with Persian blood (I reckon since his nickname is the Persian Warrior). He holds a Professional record of 6-1 with all six win end with Sabah finishing the dude either by knockout or submission.

This is going to be fun

Bellator 53: Welterweight Semifinalist - Douglas "The Phenom" Lima

Douglas "The Phenom" Lima is the final semifinalist for the Bellator Season 5 welterweight tournament contestant. The winner of the tournament gets a USD 100,000 and a shot for the Bellator Welterweight belt currently held by Ben Askeren.

Lima currently trains with American Top Team Atlanta, which is an extension of the American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida. The head coach for ATT in Atlanta is former UFC fighter Roan Carneiro who has fought the likes of Anderson Silva, Jon Fitch, Matt Horwich and Ryo Chonan throughout his career.

Lima Currently holds a record of 19-4 losses with his last lost came via decision to Eric Dahlberg in the year 2009. Currently riding on a 7 fight win streak with 4 finishes from those 7 bouts and 3 of those finishes comes via submission. He is the Maximum Fighting Championship welterweight title holder which he won by defeating Jesse Juarez and he defended his title against UFC vet Terry Martin and won the fight via TKO in the 1:14 of the first round.

There is no question that where Lima's strength lies, on the ground. With his potent Brazilian Jiu Jitsu his ground game is dangerous. This doesn't mean he can't stand and trade. He is well verse in the art of 8 limbs aka Muay Thai (aren't all fighter who comes from ATT)

His next fight with Chris Lozano would be an exciting fight. As a fan I'm hoping to see a Knock out or a submission finish in the 3rd round.

Here we go again: Jones says Rashad Ducking him

From 5th Round
by Tom Ngo

Jon "Bones" Jones stripped down
If you can dodge a wrench, but can you dodge a fight. The game of dodgeball between UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and Rashad Evans appears never ending. After agreeing to meet Evans at UFC 140 just 12 days after making his first successful title defense, Jones is claiming his former teammate is ducking their grudge match.

Evans had the pins removed from his surgically-repaired right hand on Wednesday, but his doctor won’t allow him to start training for another three weeks. With the clock ticking on their proposed December 10th showdown, Evans felt he wouldn’t have enough time to prepare for Jones.

“He’s tried to call me out on nine weeks notice,” Jones told MMAFighting. “Obviously, who wants to fight on nine weeks notice? … Rashad calls me out, predicting that I would say no, to make me look like I was ducking him again, and I say yes, and now he says, ‘Oh, I didn’t know he would say yes. I don’t want to fight him.’ He called Dana White, asked for 140, Dana White called me and said Rashad wants this fight. I gave him the fight he wanted and then he pulled out.

“Rashad, predicting that I would say no, he kind of kicked himself in the butt because I said yes, he turns around and says, ‘Oh, I didn’t expect Jon to say yes. I don’t want to fight him that soon.’ So in reality, he’s kind of the one who’s ducking the fight. I feel like he’s ducking the fight.”

Jones is fresh off the most rigorous training camp of his young career and treated himself to a $190,000 Bentley after submitting Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135. Clearly, some R&R to break in his new ride was on his mind. However, with the opportunity to squash his beef with Evans staring him dead in his eyes he couldn’t help but accept the challenge.

“Like I said, Rashad is the biggest antagonist of my career,” Jones added. “He’s the biggest hater. He has so much envy. I don’t write him, he writes me. He harasses me pretty much. He is so envious and so jealous and it’s so obvious, he doesn’t even try to hide it. And after I beat him, he’s going to hate me even more.”

Oh, and regarding Evans’ long-term top contender status, Jones believes his mortal enemy should be forced to fight again before he sniffs another championship affair.

“Obviously I want to fight him, but how long are you going to get to wait and sit around?” Jones asked. “You go from not fighting for a whole year, and then you get a fight like Tito Oritz, which everybody knows where Tito is at in his career, and now he just gets to sit around and be the No. 1 contender again?

“It looks like he’s the one that’s sitting on his glory and riding his glory. There’s tons of guys out there. I think when he gets better, he should have to fight Phil Davis or Dan Henderson. How does he get the right to just sit around and say who he is going to fight and when he is going to fight and continue to be the No. 1 contender while everybody else fights all year long?”

Jones now defends his throne against Lyoto Machida at UFC 140 inside the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

Heavyweight Alternates Santos, Burns Clash at Bellator 53

From Sherdog.com
by Mike Whittman

Thiago Santos may have missed the start of Bellator’s second heavyweight tournament, but all hope is not lost.

Bellator announced Thursday that “Big Monster” will lock horns with Josh Burns in a heavyweight tournament alternate bout at Saturday’s Bellator 53 card. The fight was made as a result of semifinalist Mike Hayes receiving a 60-day medical suspension from the Louisiana State Boxing and Wrestling Commission following his first-round split decision win over Neil Grove at Bellator 52 last week.

As a result of the suspension, Hayes may not be cleared to compete when the tournament resumes on Oct. 29. If Hayes' injuries prevent him from fighting, either Santos or Burns will step in to face Blagoi Ivanov in the semis. Santos was originally slated to compete in the tournament's quarterfinals, but he was replaced at the last minute by Zak Jensen due to visa issues.

A veteran of the defunct Rio Heroes vale tudo promotion, Santos (Pictured) has only tasted defeat once as a professional, submitting to an Alexey Oleinik rear-naked choke in 2009. Following the loss, the heavyweight posted back-to-back victories over Geronimo dos Santos and Ubiratan Marinho Lima in Amazon Fight competition last year. “Big Monster” has yet to compete in 2011.

After beginning his career a perfect 5-0, Burns has dropped four of his last five bouts. Fighting out of Detroit, Burns made his Bellator debut in his most recent outing, fighting current tournament semifinalist Eric Prindle tooth-and-nail before the fight was stopped by the doctor at the conclusion of the second round. A five-year pro, Burns owns three of his six career wins via knockout.

UFC 140 headliner features champ Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida

From MMA Junkie
by MMA Junkie Staff

UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones (14-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) will fight in UFC 140's headliner, but it won't be against Rashad Evans (16-1-1 MMA, 11-1-1 UFC).

Injuries have cost Evans another promised title shot, and ex-champ Lyoto Machida (17-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) has taken his spot in the December title fight.

UFC president Dana White today announced the news via Twitter.

The new newly announced main event comes a day after news of a potential Jones vs. Evans UFC 140 headliner. A source told MMAjunkie.com and other outlets that the fight was being targeted for the Toronto show. However, White ultimately told MMAjunkie.com that wouldn't be the case.

UFC 140 takes place Dec. 10 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The night's main card airs on pay-per-view.

The slot initially was Evans, but a hand injury suffered in a recent win over Tito Ortiz will keep him sidelined. Evans, who sported a cast earlier this month during UFC 135 media appearances, sat out most of 2010 waiting for a title shot with Rua that ultimately was scratched when Evans suffered his own knee injury. Then a planned Jones booking was scratched earlier this year due to Jones' uncertain timetable for a return from a hand injury.

Jones, who recently made his first successful title defense with a fourth-round submission win over Quinton Jackson, now owns five straight victories, which included a title win over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua back in March. His only career loss came early in his UFC career to Matt Hamill after Jones' was questionably disqualified due to illegal "12-to-6" elbow strikes. Jones otherwise dominated the December 2009 fight.

Machida recently got back in the win column with a vicious April knockout of Randy Couture. Prior to that, he suffered a title loss to Rua and a subsequent close split-decision defeat to Jackson. Prior to that, the Brazilian karate specialist had posted 16 straight victories to open his career. The run included eight straight wins in the UFC.

For the fun of it, here's Machida's crane kick

UFC 139 Spike Prelims Set: Weidman vs. Lawlor and Bader vs. Brilz

From Bloody Elbow
by Scott Haber

As has become customary, the Spike TV prelims special for UFC 139 in November will feature a pair of Ultimate Fighter alums. Fightline reports today the two bouts chosen for the live broadcast are: Chris Weidman vs. Tom Lawlor and Ryan Bader vs. Jason Brilz.

Bader and Lawlor were both contestants on the eight season of TUF, and although Bader went on to win the season, Lawlor has proven to be more of a fan favorite with his homages to MMA legends during weigh-ins, and his questionable choices of entrance attire and music. Both have tough tasks ahead of them in San Jose though.

Bader is in desperate need of a win after two consecutive guillotine choke losses to Jon Jones and Tito Ortiz. The Jones loss is obviously nothing to be embarrassed about, as Jones has been just about every opponent he faces look just as silly as he did Bader, but the Ortiz fight was certainly a case of the young prospect not taking an aging veteran seriously. Brilz, meanwhile, finds himself in dire straits as well. After coming off a surprising performance against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (that many thought he won), Brilz unfortunately followed it up by getting knocked out by Vladimir Matyushenko, who hasn't exactly shown much KO power before.

Lawlor will be facing one of the middleweight division's brightest prospects who can probably match or eclipse all of his strengths. Weidman was a two-time All American wrestler at Hofstra and also placed third in the NCAA tournament, and when he turned to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu while training under Matt Serra, he excelled there as well, gaining entry to the prestigious ADCC grappling tournament in 2009 where he made it all the way to a close points loss to grappling wizard, Andre Galvao, who also won his division and the absolute division in the ADCCs this year. Weidman is still refining his striking, and they may be one area where Lawlor can outmatch him, but if this goes to the ground (and with Weidman's credentials, it likely will), it may be a long night for "Filthy Tom".

The 139 card looks like this so far

Main Card:

Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio Rua
Wanderlei Silva vs. Cung Le
Urijah Faber vs. Brian Bowles
Rick Story vs. Martin Kampmann
Stephan Bonnar vs. Kyle Kingsbury

Spike TV Prelims:

Chris Weidman vs. Tom Lawlor
Ryan Bader vs. Jason Brilz

Facebook Prelims:

Michael McDonald vs. Johnny Eduardo
Miguel Torres vs. Nick Pace
Rafael dos Anjos vs. Gleison Tibau

Bellator 53: Welterweight Semifinalist - Chris "The Cleveland Assassin" Lozano

Chris Lozano is a mix martial artist with a professional record of  9 wins and 1 loss. His only career loss came in the Bellator Organisation where he lost to Lyman Good via Unanimous decision in Bellator 35, the quarter finals of  the season four welterweight tournament.

In his Bellator debut, Bellator 31, the Cleveland assassin faced Yoshiyuki Yoshida and defeated the one time UFC vet via TKO (doctor stoppage). Lozano is somewhat a Knockout artist with 7 of his 9 wins come either by knockout or a TKO.

His upcoming fight would be against Douglas Lima in the Season 5 Bellator Welterweight  semifinals. Much is expected from this fight because it pits Lozano against one of the rising star in MMA. Can Lozano bring the fight to Lima and not only cement his place in the finals but prove he is and up and comer himself who is ready to be in the big leagues.

Battle Brewing Over Next to Fight for Belt as Champ Anderson Silva Recovers

From MMA Fighting
by Mike Chiappetta

HOUSTON -- Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann both hope to make their case as the next man to fight Anderson Silva on Saturday. But their UFC 136 fight, largely considered a possible No. 1 contenders bout, is no sure thing to produce a middleweight title challenger.

On Wednesday, UFC president Dana White said there was more than one possibility for Silva, and he seemed willing to wait to see how things play out before committing to a plan.

One alternate possibility? If Dan Henderson beats Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 139 next month, he might bump to the front of the line.

The returning star recently vacated the Strikeforce light heavyweight championship to come back to the UFC. And though his first fight back will be at light heavyweight, he's willing to move down to 185 for another crack at Silva.

"We've got to see what happens here," White said. "The winner of [Sonnen-Stann] deserves a shot at Anderson Silva? It'd be tough to say no. But if Henderson beats Shogun, it'd be tough to say that Henderson doesn't deserve the shot either. So we'll see what happens."

White also revealed that if Silva had been healthy, he likely would have been slotted into an immediate title bout with Henderson. It would actually be a rematch, as the two squared off at UFC 82 in March 2008, with Silva winning via rear- naked choke in the second round.

Meanwhile, Sonnen seems to have toned down some of his usually pointed comments aimed at Silva, a fact that led a Brazilian reporter to ask him about how much of what he says is for show. Sonnen, who came across a bit subdued throughout the UFC 136 press conference, suddenly came to life, saying that he still has the long-reigning champion in his crosshairs.

"I'm not scared of that guy, I'm not going to apologize to that guy," said Sonnen, who is favored to beat Stann this weekend. "And I appreciate what the Brazilian people said, and a lot of that was said in good fun. But the bottom line is I'm sticking a finger in his chest, I'm picking a fight, and I'm not going to quit."

Whether Henderson (28-8), Sonnen (25-11-1) or Stann (11-3) receives the opportunity might also be a question of timing. Silva is still on the mend after a shoulder injury. The problem isn't considered serious, but simply a matter of time and rehabilitation.

"He has bursitis in his shoulder," White said. "The doctor told him he needs to rest it for eight weeks, and he's doing physical therapy. It's not like he's got some injury that needs surgery or anything like that. As amazing as this guy is, we forget this guy is 37 years old."

Regardless of the challenger, upsetting Silva will be an uphill task. The popular champion is riding a UFC-record 14-fight win streak, and he's successfully defended his belt nine straight times, also a record.
