Asian MMA scene on the rise

Great news for MMA in Asia as both Legend FC and One FC sign major broadcasting deals.

Article from Bloody Elbow
Title:Legend FC Announces Distribution Deal With ESPN, ONE FC Announces Media Partnership With ESS

Legend FC
There's interesting news coming out of the Asian MMA scene from both Legend FC and ONE FC. Both promotions will be hosting their next shows at the same date, and both promotions have announced major deals for their promotions on the same day as well.

Earlier today, Legend FC has announced an "exclusive distribution and syndication agreement" with ESPN. This Hong Kong-based promotion is already available on 10 countries, including PPV in North America, and with this deal, they'll be looking to expand their reach to a broader audience globally with the help of ESPN international. From their press release:

Legend Fighting Championship (Legend) today announced the signing of an exclusive distribution and syndication agreement with ESPN International (ESPN). Under the terms of the agreement, ESPN will serve as the sole distribution agent of all Legend broadcast content in Asia, Oceania, the Indian sub-continent, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

... "Legend’s combination of a roster filled with elite fighters from the Asia-Pacific region with high-quality production values makes us excited to work with them to continue to develop their audience around the world," said Mike Walter, vice president of programming, ESPN International.

ONE FC on the other hand, will be hosting a show on the same date, and as we wrote about earlier, the Singapore-based promotion is set to be broadcast all over Asia on ESPN Star Sports (ESS). The promotion announced this deal a few moments ago, also adding that they have entered in a 10-year partnership with the company, guaranteeing a decade's worth of shows being broadcast on ESS. From their release:

ONE Fighting Championship™, Asia’s largest MMA organization, announces a 10-year media partnership with ESPN STAR Sports, Asia’s biggest sports content provider. This partnership marks the largest MMA media deal in Asian history and includes showcasing the best Asian mixed martial artists against one another through a series of events across all the major cities in Asia.

... Adam Zecha, Executive Vice President, Head of Sales (SEA), ESPN STAR Sports, said, "ESPN STAR Sports has always been at the forefront in offering innovative and engaging programming to sports fans across the region. We have successfully showcased a diverse range of combat sports events to fans, and with this long-term partnership with ONE Fighting Championship, mixed-martial arts sports fans can now look forward to more exciting action on our networks."

UFC Primetime: Diaz vs Condit Episode 2

The second part of a part three series for the UFC 143 promo. In this episode, it focused more on the background and the lives of the fighter.

You can help but root for the both of them. One is a misunderstood figure and the other is an all around family man but there is no denying that both has an immense passion for the sport.

I was also pleasantly surprise with a cameo of a certain man named GSP. Here we can see the anger and the discontent of GSP when it comes to Nick Diaz. It came to a point where GSP confess the demons he has had and is currently facing. The demeanor and the facial expression of GSP says it all. He meant what he said and he will give Diaz a beating if they meet.

This has brought the meaning of the fight interim title fight onto another level. Can Diaz win and give us the fight we all have been waiting for the past one year or can Condit spoil the fun and claim the throne and face GSP to unify the title?

Either way, Diaz and Condit are worthy challenger to the title but I would be rooting for Diaz. A Diaz vs GSP fight is too hard to turn down and it has mass appeal to the UFC and MMA fans alike.

Its up to Diaz to make it happen or for Condit to prove us wrong.

Give it to Ariel Helwani to start a fire. Probably Dana had something to do with it. Whether or not it is was done on purpose, this is the very single video I have been waiting for

Quote from Sonnen

Fighting Chael Sonnen is hazardous for your health

Disclaimer has been made and my conscious is clear, if you show up, its on your own hands.

Quote from Bisping

I'm a fan of Chael Sonnen but fortunately he is clearly more looking like jester than a fighter

The Return

I have not been blogging for the past 2 months due to partly my laziness. But I have been following the fights recently and definitely the year ended and started with a bang. One of the most memorable fights in 2011 coincided with the return of Dan 'Hendo' Henderson to the UFC as a fought against the revived former UFC 205 Lbs  champ Shogun Rua. This is definitely fight of 2011. The amount of beating Shogun got in the first 3 rounds and the come back in the fourth and the fifth was really something.

There are so many fights to talk about, the Wanderlei vs Cung le, Jones vs Machida, Mir vs Big Nog, the flash knockout by the Korean Zombie. Too many to talk about. and there's the Lesnar-Overeem fight.

The Minnesota Viking vs the Dutch Incredible Hulk

One of the most anticipated fights of the year and did it deliver.

I said it and said it again, Overeem is the best striker in the world. Heavyweight division mind you. Yes, you may say that Dos Santos can lay claim to that, I believe Dos Santos is more of a Boxer than a complete striker like Overeem. OK, how bout this, JDS best heavy boxer in MMA while Overeem best complete striker in MMA. Good?

Then there was the first event of the year, The Rumble in Rio for UFC 142. Jose Aldo, well was Jose Aldo. He went and beat the crap out of Money Mendes with a knew and he threw a couple of punches to make sure that Mendes stayed down a little while longer. Truthfully speaking, I thought Money Mendes would win, well I was wrong. Very wrong.

There's the Belfort vs Rumble which I was actually very excited for until Rumble missed weight by 11 lbs. The excitement just left the building. I didn't even bother to watch the fight knowing a guy was overweight. If he was over by a 2 or 3 pounds, I would still watch but blimey 11 lbs. Coming from a dude who was going up a weight class that was pure disrespectful to Belfort who (from videos) worked hard to reach the weight. Thank God Belfort won. Justice served and Done.

After UFC 142, there was the UFC on FX 1 in Nashville, Tennessee. Headline by Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard. I am a fan of Jim MIller. I love his style. Because of that style he won against a better striker who actually looks like he was going to knock out Jim Miller. Some how and by some divine way, Jim got Guillard back and RNC the crap out of Guillard. B-E-A-U TIFUL.

Next fight in Chicago, UFC on Fox  Rashard Evans vs Phil Davis. Battle of the wrestlers and probably the only 2 guys in the UFC who could match the current champ Jon 'Bones' Jones. My bets on Evans because I want to watch Bones slug it out with him. Davis is still green and he might be a future champ and make it rivalry with Bones in the future that is.

Co main event is the two most interesting fighters in the business, Sonnen vs Bisping. Initially Sonnen was suppose to fight Munoz for the no. 1 contender but Munoz got under the knife to remove 24 pieces of bones fragments. He is out until June. So Bisping step up. If he wins, he will fight for the title, and if Sonnen wins he will not fight for the tittle because Anderson is afraid and Sonnen still lay claim of the UFC middleweight title. This is an intriguing fight both stylistically and for the show boat. To loud mouths facing each other. What can we expect?

Further updates will be coming

So stay tune
